Prep Notebook: Bear River cheer team performs at Pro Bowl

Bear River High School’s cheerleaders earned all superior ratings at the United Spirit Association summer camp held at UC Santa Cruz, which earned them an invitation to perform at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii on Feb. 10.

In preparation for the performance, the Bruin cheerleaders practiced five to six hours per day while in Hawaii to perform in the pre-game and halftime shows.

“It was an amazing experience for all of them,” said cheer coach Chris Espedal.

Biersdorff wins first tee trophy

Nevada City resident Spencer Biersdorff, a 16-year-old junior at Nevada Union High School and member of the Greater Sacramento First Tee, took home the championship trophy at the annual points championship earlier this month at Timber Creek Golf Course in Roseville.

The invitational tournament field was comprised of the top eight players intournament points during the 2007 season.

Biersdorff carded a 2-over-par 74 to take first place in the 16-18 year-old division.
