PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Colfax falls on the road at Argonaut
The Colfax Falcons dropped their first contest of the season Friday, falling to the Argonaut Mustangs, 35-30, in Jackson.
Colfax took an early lead when Austin Weir found Nick Van Doorn for a 45-yard touchdown pass. The Falcons would take a 16-15 halftime lead, but Argonaut would rally in the second half and take a commanding 35-23 lead in the fourth. The Falcons would score on a Mason Ahrens 3-yard touchdown run to pull with five points, but that was as close as they would get.
Leading Colfax was Weir with three passing touchdowns, two of which went to Van Doorn.
Colfax (2-1) will be on the road for the third straight week when they face Bella Vista.
Reno 34, Placer 24
Elsewhere among Pioneer Valley League teams, Placer once again lost and is now 0-3 this season.
The Hillmen, who went 12-1 a season ago, lost to Reno, 34-24.
Placer was led by Morgn Rein-Robinson with 95 yards and a touchdown, and Anthony Kerrigan with 48 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Center 8, River City 0
The Center Cougars are now the lone undefeated team among PVL combatants after topping River City from West Sacramento.
The Cougars (3-0) defense has been dominant this season, allowing just 14 points through the first three games.
After three straight home games, Center hits the road to face Bradshaw Christian next.
In other action concerning PVL teams, Lincoln (0-3) lost to Nevada Union 21-14 in overtime, Foothill (1-2) lost, 18-15, to Woodland, and Bear River (1-1) had a bye.
Folsom 55, Pleasant Grove 0
Over in the Sierra Foothill League, the reigning league champion Folsom Bulldogs improved to 3-0 after thrashing Pleasant Grove.
Folsom quarterback Joe Curry passed for 197 yards and three touchdowns in the win.
Del Oro 16, Bellermine 14
The Del Oro Golden Eagles (3-0) also stayed undefeated after beating San Jose powerhouse Bellermine College Prep.
Del Oro quarterback Stone Smart completed nine passes in the game, eight of those were to Mason Hurst for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Oak Ridge 49, Burbank 14
The Trojans from Oak Ridge are also 3-0 after blasting past Burbank.
Oak Ridge quarterback Marco Baldacchino was impressive in the win, throwing for 176 yards and four touchdowns. Baldacchino also had 45 rushing yards in the win.
Oak Ridge faces Reed, out of Sparks Nevada, next Friday.
In other action concerning Sierra Foothill League teams, Granite Bay (1-2) beat Oak Grove 27-14, NU (2-1)beat Lincoln, 21-14, Granite Bay beat Whitney 18-17, and Woodcreek (1-2) lost to Antelope, 49-28.
