PREP BASKETBALL: Lady Miners roll past Bella Vista in Rumble on the River tourney opener
After back-to-back losses in non-league play, the Nevada Union girls basketball team bounced back in a big way in its Rumble on the River Tournament opener Thursday.
Facing the Bella Vista Broncos in the first round, the Lady Miners had five different players score in double figures and all nine active players net points as they cruised to an 86-4 victory.
“It was nice to have everyone score,” said NU head coach Jenn Krill.
Leading the Lady Miners offensive charge was senior forward Meadow Aragon with 19 points. Emerson Dunbar, a junior forward, followed with 16 points. Kendall Hughes, a junior, added 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Sophomore Kia Costanza netted 10 points and tallied five rebounds. Savannah Betito also had 10 points and the senior also had seven rebounds. Senior guard Molly Burton finished with seven points. Sophomore guard Aijah King chipped in five points. Senior guard Leah Ellis scored four points and dished out five assists. And, junior guard Reese Wheeler tallied three points to go with four steals.
The win improves Nevada Union to 3-2 overall this season. The Lady Miners will face off with their Rumble on the River second round opponent today.
