Post 130 slides to 2nd in district

Grass Valley’s Post 130 baseball team took second place in the American Legion District Tournament this week, falling to Roseville in Thursday night’s championship game by an 8-1 count.

Though Grass Valley had 11 hits in the game, the team left 13 runners on base, leaving little run support for pitchers Henry Harrison, Greg Heauser and Richie Osborne.

Robbie Porter was 2-for-4 with a double, while Broughan Jantz and Jared Ralph each went 2-for-3.

Grass Valley advanced to the title game with a 19-5 win over El Dorado in Thursday afternoon’s semifinal. Trailing 5-2 in the fourth inning, Post 130 pounded out 17 unanswered runs for the win.

Harrison went 4-for-5 at the plate, while Chris Porter was 3-for-4 with a double. Jantz and David Wilkens each went 2-for-4, while Ralph, Robbie Porter and Adam Kremple each had a 2-for-5 game at the plate. Robbie Porter also doubled in the win.

Ralph picked up the win on the mound, throwing a complete game in which he retired 11 straight batters in one stretch.
