Pitch, Hit, Run skills competition scores a successful showing

Thirty kids showed off their talents on the diamond at the Pitch, Hit and Run baseball/softball skills competition at Condon Park Saturday.

The contest, which was sponsored by the City of Grass Valley’s Parks & Recreation Department, offered individual event and all around championships in four age groups.

In the 7/8 age group, Jeremy Mortara won the pitching and hitting competitions en route to an all around win.



Kyle Selleck won the running competition.

Chris Haines took first in the 9/10 age group hitting and running events to finish first in the all around competition.




Robin Calles won the pitching event.

In the 11/12 age group, Patrick Reese, who won the running event and tied with Cody Nunnink for first in the pitching competition, took the all around title.

Conor McClure won the hitting event.

Daniel Stith took the all around title in the 13/14 age group. Stith also won the hitting competition.

Traves Sellers took first in the pitching competition. Reese Miller won the running event.

All around winners qualified for the sectional championships May 19. From there, age group individual champions become eligible to qualify for the team championships to be held at Pac Bell Park in conjunction with a San Francisco Giants game.
