Pirates pull out GV title

There were a few games played after June 14 in the Grass Valley Little League’s Majors Division, but the league championship was decided that very night, as the Pirates pulled out a 2-0 win for the crown.

Jordan Smith picked up the win after striking out four and allowing two hits and no walks in four innings of work. Kirby Hopper doubled for the Pirates in the win, while the Yankees got two hits from Scott Britton.

The Pirates closed out the season with a 17-4 mark, while the Yankees secured second place with a 16-5 record.

Red Sox are NC champs

The Red Sox won the Nevada City Little League Majors title, finishing the regular season with an 18-3 record.

Five different Red Sox players combined for 12 home runs during the regular season, including five from the bat of Ryan Conger.

Robbie Porter hammered out three homers, Ryan Zink smashed two round-trippers, while Henry Harrison and Josh Boyer each went deep once for the Red Sox.

Game Notes: The Red Sox jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first. The Red Sox, which racked up 17 hits in the win, continued theoffensive attack scoring five runs in the second, four in the third and four runs in the fourth – capped off by Robbie Porter’s walk-off two-run homer to end the game forcing the 10-run rule into effect.

Game Notes: The Red Sox scored two runs in the first, two more in the third, one in the fourth, and broke open the game in the fifth inning by scoring six runs off of six hits and forcing into effect the 10-run rule. Robbie Porter completed his final regular season game for the Red Sox, throwing a no-hitter and facing just two batters above the minimum.
