Olympic torch heads through Truckee

For fans of the winter Olympics who aren’t heading to Utah for the festivities, there’s still a chance to feel the warm glow of the games – or at least see the flame on its way to the opening ceremonies.

The torch is passing through the area and will be at Truckee, Squaw Valley and Incline VIllage Sunday.

Nevada City resident Gayle Lossman will be carrying the torch, representing the Nevada County and the Lake Tahoe area.

Her run starts at 3:16 p.m. Sunday. She will run along Lakeshore Drive.

Her route starts at 640 Lakeshore Drive (between Martis Peak Drive and Slott Peak Drive) and finishes at Burnt Cedar Beach on Lakeshore Drive.

The torch will also be traveling through Truckee. The official relay team will pass the torch to the first runner at 10 a.m. at Donner Lake (Donner Pass Road by West End Beach). The torch will be carried along Donner Lake (via Donner Pass Road), stopping briefly at Donner Memorial State Park at 10:30 a.m.

From there, the torch will continue along Donner Pass Road, over the freeway and through downtown Truckee (approximately 11:20 a.m.).

It will be carried across the railroad tracks, right on West River Street and ending near Taco Bell.

The caravan will then take the torch to Squaw Valley. Later it will travel to Incline Village.

Events are planned along the routes to celebrate the torch relay.
