NU volleyball swept by Oak Ridge

The Miners fell short of visiting Oak Ridge Thursday, falling in three games 25-18, 25-22, 25-16 in the final tune-up before the Sierra Foothill League serves in to play.

“It was a tough match against Oak Ridge, who came out very strong,” NU coach Chrys Dudek said. “Mallory Castles played and served well, but it was not enough to help the Lady Miners in this final preseason match.”

Taylor Japhet had seven kills for NU, while Abbie Miraldi had four kills and Mallory Castles added three. Paige Carnahan served ups seven service points, while Tessa Butterfield had five. Castles led the way behind the service line with three aces, while Alexis Moser totaled seven digs.

NU (8-3) opens SFL action Monday at home against Roseville.

JV: Nevada Union 2, Oak Ridge 1

Jenna Britton had 11 kills on 19 attempts, along with four service aces, to lead NU’s junior varsity to a 24-26, 25-14, 15-6 win over Oak Ridge Thursday.

Miranda Castles had five kills, as did Natalie Migiozzi. Taryn Salcedo totaled 25 assists.

NU (3-0) competes in the Sheldon Junior Varsity Tournament Saturday.

Frosh: Nevada Union 2, Oak Ridge 0

NU’s freshman team used strong ball control and fine serving to down Oak Ridge 25-9, 25-16 Thursday.
