Sweeping all three doubles matches, Nevada Union’s varsity tennis team scored an 8-2 win in its Sierra Foothill League opener Tuesday at NUHS.

“It’s very good to get the first victory out of the gate,” said NU coach Nick Bodley. “Especially not knowing what to expect as a first-year coach and with a lot of freshmen and sophomores on the team.”

In addition to dominating doubles play, NU also scored four wins in singles action. Jaimie Miller scored a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Maddi Messer was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 4 singles. Hayley Zucca won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and Hayley Croft was a 7-5, 6-3 winner at the No. 6 spot.

In doubles, Erika Kidera and Sophia Melas won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Molly Feller and Nicole Hamilton won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Anna Daggett and Elizabeth Peterson teamed up for a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

In an exhibition match, Lucia Gilisova and Heather Foote were 6-2, 6-0 winners.

NU (1-0) travels to Woodcreek for a 3:30 p.m. match Thursday.
