NU soccer team blanks Rocklin

The Nevada Union boys soccer team has been up and down throughout the preseason, but now that the Sierra Foothill League has begun, they look ready to battle the competition.

The Miners opened their league schedule with a one-goal win Thursday against Rocklin, topping the Thunder 1-0.

The Miners got the lead early, coming on a Greg Paul goal. Paul, a weapon on throw ins, launched the ball from the sideline into the goalie box where it was deflected into the goal for an NU lead, 1-0, just 10 minutes into the match. That would be all that NU would need.

The two teams would battle closely for the remainder of the match, but NU’s defense would prevail, holding Rocklin without a goal the entire day.

The Miners are now 1-0 in the SFL and have won two straight games after opening the season with a pair of losses.

The junior varsity Miners fell to Rocklin 4-1.

NU will take to the pitch again Tuesday when it faces Granite Bay.

Coaches may submit game reports by email at or by phone at 530-477-4232. deadline for submission is 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5 p.m. Sunday.
