NU grad’s goal lifts Grizzlies
Here’s a look at how some athletes with local ties fared recently at the college level:
MacKenzie Murphy (Nevada Union, ’03); Montana – Murphy’s goal in the first minute Saturday sparked the Grizzlies’ 2-1 win against the defending Big Sky Conference champion Weber State. On Thursday, Murphy took one shot in 51 minutes of work as the Grizzlies fell 1-0 to Idaho State.
Leigh Collins (Nevada Union, ’06); Biola University – Collins played 41 minutes Thursday in her team’s 3-2 loss to Fresno Pacific. In Biola’s 2-0 loss Oct. 16 to Westmont, Collins played 32 minutes,
Lauren Zealear (Nevada Union, ’03); Santa Clara – Zealear played 30 minutes Sunday in the No. 4 Broncos’ 6-2 win against Gonzaga. On Thursday, Zealear had an assist in a 3-2 win against the No. 7 Portland Pilots.
James Brindley (Nevada Union, ’06); Utah State – Brindley had one solo tackle Saturday in the Aggies’ 48-35 loss to Louisiana Tech.
Brennan McFadden (Nevada Union, ’05); Utah State – McFadden spent time at tight end and right guard Saturday in Utah State’s second-straight loss.
Josh Noxon (Nevada Union, ’06); Yuba Community College – Noxon caught one pass for eight yards Saturday in Yuba’s 43-37 loss to Solano.
Keith Marin (Bear River, ’03); Menlo College (Atherton) – Marin caught three passes for 24 yards Saturday in Menlo’s 26-7 loss to Whitworth.
Erik Flores (Nevada Union, ’05); University of California, Los Angeles – Flores’s final round of 2-under-par 70 pushed him into a tie for 10th place Tuesday as the Bruins finished second at the Prestige at PGA West.
Ali Daley (Nevada Union, ’05); UCLA – Daley totaled 12 kills, eight digs, two assists, an ace and a block Friday in a 3-1 win at USC.
Brynne Edwards (Forest Lake Christian, ’03); The Master’s College in Santa Clarita – In Saturday’s 3-0 win against Hope International, Edwards collected 13 digs, three assists and a pair of aces. On Thursday, Edwards served a match-high four aces in a 3-1 loss to Concordia. Edwards also racked up 16 digs in the match, along with one kill.
