NU falls to Deer Valley at NorCals

The Nevada Union volleyball team’s season came to an end Tuesday in Antioch as the Miners fell to Deer Valley in the first round of the CIF Norcal boys volleyball tournament.

NU battled the Wolverines (41-1) closely in Game 1 but eventually fell 25-18. In Game 2, Deer Valley began to take complete control with a 25-13 victory. And, in Game 3, it was a walloping with the Miners losing 25-9.

“Too much for us to handle,” NU head coach Marco Salcedo said in a text.

That concludes the season for NU, which finished 29-9 overall and as the Sierra Foothill League champs with a 9-1 league record.

Granite Bay, who beat NU in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-I championship Thursday, won their matchup against Amador Valley in four sets, 25-19, 15-25, 25-23, 25-20. The Grizzlies will now take on top-seeded Archbishop Mitty in the second round.
