NU boarders carve out 4th-place finish

The Nevada Union snowboard team went up to Boreal Mountain Resort Monday for the season opener and came back down with a fourth-place finish overall.

The Miners were led by their girls squad, which took first place in the girls competition.

Drew Bernadett led the Miners, taking third place individually with total time after two runs of 1 minute, 6.54 seconds. Bernadett was just 1.5 seconds away from the first-place finisher, Ruby Wood of Truckee, and was less than a second behind the second-place finisher.

NU’s Celine Holland finished fourth with a time of 1:08.71, and Morgan Shade finished 10th in a time of 1:33.20 to give NU three boarders in the top 10.

Faith Robichaud completed her runs with a time of 1:37.33, good enough for 12th, and Michaela Haemig finished in a combined time of 1:51.44, earning her 19th place.

On the boys side, the Miners had two boarders finish in the top 10 and 10 finish in the top 45.

Dakota Agren was the boys team’s top competitor finishing in seventh-place with a time of 1:16.98. Phillip Breaux wasn’t far behind with a time of 1:17.49, taking ninth place.

Other NU snow boarders who competed Monday were Bradley Carrion, finishing in 24th place (1:33.96), Trent Jarvis in 26th (1:37.10), Andrew Scarafiotti in 28th (1:41.82), Frank Benuzzi in 32nd (1:45.59), Austin Latter in 34th (1:48.96), Billy Waters in 37th (1:51.28), Cory Arbaugh in 40th (1:57.09) and Jared Fernandez in 42nd (2:13.46).
