New Forest Lake coach starts off with 70-38 win

First-year head coach Steve Gonet didn’t have to wait long to collect his first win at the helm of the Forest Lake Christian boys basketball team.

The Falcons had no trouble disposing of visiting Rite of Passage (Sacramento) 70-38 Wednesday.

Junior Mark Boatman led FLC with 18 points, while his classmate Chris Keller added 16 more. Taylor Lawrence, a senior, grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Falcons’ pressure defense resulted in 23 steals on the night.

“I thought we hustled really well for the first game and we had very few mental breakdowns,” said Gonet. “And overall, I was generally pleased.”

The Falcons (1-0) host New Life Christian at 7 p.m. Friday.
