After last Thursday’s heartbreaking Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship loss to Granite Bay, the Nevada Union boys volleyball team will look to turn things around with a strong showing in the first CIF Northern California Regional Volleyball Championships.

The top two teams from each section were selected to compete in the inaugural tournament, and NU received the No. 7 seed out of eight teams.

The Miners drew No. 2 seed Deer Valley out of Antioch and will travel to face the Wolverines on their home court today.

Deer Valley (40-1) has dropped only one contest this season and hasn’t lost since March 16. The Wolverines were the Bay Valley Conference champs with a 10-0 league record and went on to capture the North Coast Section championship with wins over De La Salle, Foothill and Amador Valley in the championship game.

The only common opponent NU shares with Deer Valley this season is Granite Bay against which the Miners were 1-3 in four contests. The Wolverines are 1-0, having beat Granite Bay in straight sets earlier this season.

The Miners will look for the upset at 7 p.m. today at Deer Valley.
