Nevada Union tennis sweeps by El Dorado

One of the key factors for the Nevada Union boys tennis team this season figures to be the performance of its doubles combinations.

There were certainly encouraging signs in that area for the Miners on Tuesday when they scored a 9-0 sweep at home against non-league foe El Dorado. Three matches ” three straight-set victories.

“I was really pleased with our doubles,” NU coach Mike Blake said. “We’re going to need that depth to pull us through this season and those boys really pulled together and played well today.”

Will Harvey and Hunter Jones won the No. 1 doubles match 6-2, 6-0. Bo Jacobson and Joseph Schumacher were 6-2, 6-2 victors at No. 2. Sarav Patel and Andy Tweed won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3.

The Miners had little difficulty sweeping through the six singles matches, led by Eli Waggoner’s 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 match. Jordan Stratigakes won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 and Jasper Fredrickson won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. Caleb Goodman won 6-2, 7-5, senior Chris Edwards won his first match for NU 6-2, 6-4 and Joey Beedy won 6-4, 6-2.

The Miners (1-1) host Rocklin next Wednesday and then open Metro League play with a match against McClatchy in Sacramento.
