Kyler Caldwell’s two-run double keyed a seventh-inning rally that lifted the Nevada Union junior varsity baseball team to a season-opening 6-2 victory against Vintage on Wednesday afternoon in Napa.

The Miners scored four runs in the seventh to break up a 2-2 struggle.

Greg Heauser pitched six solid innings in which he allowed one earned run, to go with nine strikeouts and just one walk. Jordan Sheffield came on to pitch the final inning, and allowed no runs on one hit and no walks to close out the game.

Caldwell led the offense by hitting 2-for-4 with a double, while Cody Johnson went 2-for-4. Heauser hit 1-for-2 with a double.

Weather allowing, the Miners play a 6 p.m. game tonight at Woodland.
