Nevada Union graduate Kit Gratten inducted into Merced College HOF

Kit Gratten, a 1982 Nevada Union graduate, was recently inducted into the Merced College Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in swimming.

Gratten owns Merced College school records in the 1,000-yard freestyle event (9:54), the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:20) and as a member of the 800-yard freestyle team. All Gratten’s records were set in 1984 and still stand today.

Gratten was inducted during a ceremony at Merced College Oct. 10. He along with six others were honored.

While in college at Merced, Gratten began coaching the Merced Skimmers, a local youth swim team, and continued to do so for 25 years. After graduating from Merced College, Gratten graduated with a four-year degree from Stanislaus State University. He has been a high school coach for the past the 20 years and is currently a swim and water polo coach at Merced High School.
