Nevada Union girls defeat Grant in tune-up game

Olympia Jacobs and Sarah McAtee combined to score 42 points on Wednesday night as the Nevada Union girls basketball team posted a 68-58 victory against Grant at Ali Gymnasium.

Jacobs scored 22 points and McAtee chipped in with a season-high 20 to help the Miners win a tune-up test before two upcoming Metro League showdowns.

The Miners (18-6, 8-1), who have won six straight and nine of their last 10 games, will be at home on Friday night to face third-place McClatchy and then host co-league leading Kennedy next Wednesday. Nevada Union’s lone league loss came on Jan. 17 in Sacramento at the hands of McClatchy, 58-45.

Wednesday was a good tune-up, according to coach Duwaine Ganskie.

“The kids did a good job against their zone,” Ganskie said. “They moved the ball well, passed the ball well, and we got a lot of good shots.”

The game was close most of the way. Nevada Union led 14-12 at the end of one quarter and 33-26 at halftime. The Miners extended their lead over the Pacers to 54-43 at the end of three quarters.
