Nevada Union cross country coach resigns

Nevada Union head cross country coach Dan King made it official Wednesday:

He’s retiring.

King, whose helped coach NU boys and girls cross country teams teams to a total of three Sac-Joaquin Section Division I titles and multiple CIF State Tournament berths in his seven years at the helm, cited a need for a change – both in his life, and for the program – as the reason for his decision.

“I’ve had a great time over the past seven years, but I just think it’s time to give someone else a shot,” King said.

King, who also resigned from NU’s track and field team, said the new coach will have plenty of talented athletes to work with.

“Whoever takes over next year will (come into Nevada Union) with the cupboards full,” he said.

He pointed to key returners from both his boys – which won the section title this season and – and girls teams.

‘The girls return everyone from a team which took second in the section by two points.”

King said first of his list of things-to-do is hit the classroom.

“I want to work on getting my teaching credentials and Masters degree. My bachelor’s degrees are in kinesiology and health promotion and I think I’d like to stick with that.”

“I had an incredible time, and I know the program will continue to prosper,” he added.
