Nevada Union boys follow Thompson to victory lane

Kelib Thompson torched Johnson of Sacramento for a career-high 30 points as the host Nevada Union boys basketball team ran off with a 78-59 makeup-game win Monday.

The Miners improved to 16-10 overall and 6-4 in the Metro League.

Thompson had the hot hand early, and the Miners, especially Tony Parilo, fed him all night.

“Tony knows as well as anybody that we need a one-two punch. He and everybody else did really great job of getting Kelib into the game,” NU head coach Jeff Dellis said.

Thompson, a 6-foot-8-inch senior center, struck from all over the court to set his career mark.

“He did a little bit of everything. He posted up, squared up in the halfcourt and drove to the basket, and he had a couple of baskets in transition,” Dellis added. “He’s one of those all-around type of players, and tonight he really showed what he can do.”

Parilo totaled 12 points.

Cole Cooper chipped in eight points. Chase Fleming added seven points.

NU will play at Kennedy of Sacramento 7 p.m. today.
