Nevada County motor sports: Silver Dollar Speedway sees Hall take top prize

There weren’t nearly as many races as normal this weekend, but the races that did take place kept fans interested.

The popular California Sprint Car Civil War Series made two stops this week and Nevada County drivers made their presence known in a big way.

First, during Friday night’s action at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Grass Valley’s Mark Hall showed he’s still a force to be reckoned with behind the wheel. Hall led by winning heat one and followed it up with the top finish in the A feature.

Hall was one of four area racers to place in the top 10 of Friday’s A feature. Grass Valley’s Billy Wallace took fifth, Colfax’s Colby Wiesz was seventh and Grass Valley’s Robert Stice finished in 10th. Wallace, meanwhile, won the B feature and took sixth in heat three. Wiesz was third in the B feature and sixth in the second heat while Stice was fourth in the first heat.

Grass Valley’s Pat Harvey Jr. finished up ninth in the B feature after taking fifth in the fourth heat.

Of those five, all but Stice returned to Civil War Series action at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday.

This time, Wiesz led the local racers with a fourth-place finish in the A feature after taking third in the third heat. Hall was right behind in fifth in the A feature after winning heat two while Wallace trailed Hall in sixth place in the A feature after a fourth-place finish in heat one.

Harvey was 14th in the B feature, first in the C feature and eighth in heat one.

Wiesz remained in second place in the driver standings just 28 points out of first while Hall is in seventh, 85 points out. The closest driver to Hall, however, is more that 100 points behind the Grass Valley driver. Both Hall and Wiesz have raced in all nine of the Civil War races so far this year.

Wallace, meanwhile, sits in 17th in the standings even though he’s only competed in six of the nine races. Harvey has raced in seven and is in 23rd while Stice has raced in just two Civil War races and is in 53rd.
