The Nevada City Little League 9-10 All Star team wrapped up a stellar postseason by claiming the District 11 Area 2 Championship in convincing fashion over Grass Valley, Sierra Foothills, and Foresthill.

Nevada City impressed in the field, on the mound, and at the plate, winning each of their three games by virtue of the 10-run mercy rule. The District 11 Area 2 crown was the first for a Nevada City Little League 9-10 squad since 2012.

Nevada City went on to face a traditionally tough Lincoln squad for the overall District Championship, played at Auburn Little League. The mental toughness and teamwork Nevada City had developed over two weeks of near-constant practice was on full display against their foes from the much larger league as they battled them to a near standstill through six innings. As the elimination game entered the seventh and final inning, Nevada City trailed by only a single run, 7-6.

In the end, however, Lincoln’s offensive firepower proved to be too much as they were able to pull out the victory and move on to sectionals. Although the District Championship was not to be, Nevada City held their heads high with a sparkling overall performance and an Area Championship banner to hang back home at Pioneer Park come Opening Day.
