Motor Sports Report: Toller Gold Fever Open set for Oct. 10

The Union staff

The Sherm Toller Gold Fever Open for winged 360 sprint cars hits the track at Marysville Raceway on Oct. 10.

The race will be held in the memory of Sherm Toller, the longtime track announcer from Grass Valley who died earlier this year.

The event will pay $2,500 to win and $300 to start the A Feature. Rather than the generally static ritual of single car qualifying attempts, the series of heat races will establish the first 14 positions in the A Main event. Finishers in the B Main event will fill the final starting positions in the A Main.

The pit gate opens at 3 p.m., while spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with practice at 6 p.m.. The first progressive heat race is slated to start at 7 p.m.

Please see for an entry form and event specifics.

Antioch Speedway

Grass Valley’s Jeremy Burt is now 2-for-2 this season at Antioch Speedway, after posting his second win there Saturday night.

It was the second showing of the 360 Winged Sprint cars at Antioch, where Burt was followed by Mike Monohan and Keith Colvins in second and third place, respectively.

Marysville Raceway Park

Rough and Ready’s Brent Lawrence posted a fourth place finish in the Stock Cars main event at MRP Sept. 25.

After starting back in the pack due to mechanical trouble that kept him out of his heat qualifier, Lawrence posted a top five finish in his first race at Marysville in 16 years.

Lovelock Speedway

Terry Lawrence of southern Nevada County took fifth place in both his heat race and the main event of the Pro Stocks Sept. 27 at Lovelock Speedway’s Modified Madness event in Lovelock, Nev.

Placerville Speedway

Grass Valley’s Billy Wallace took seventh place in the Sept. 26 A feature of the 360 Sprints season finale of the California Sprint Cars Civil War Series at Placerville Speedway, while Grass Valley’s Pat Harvey Jr. finished 14th.

Wallace took sixth place in the B feature and fifth place in his heat qualifier. Harvey Jr. finished second in his heat race.

Oroville’s Sean Becker took the checkered flag in the A feature race.
