Motor Sports Report: Brown Jr. celebrates baby’s birth, 10th straight win
Not much has slowed down Dan Brown Jr. this season.
But the Nevada City driver did actually come to a complete stop at least for a moment last week, when he celebrated the birth of his 6-pound, 14-ounce baby girl with his wife, Brittney.
By Saturday night, however, it was back to business for Brown Jr. at Placerville Motor Speedway, picking up his 12th feature event win in 13 starts. The win was also the 10th straight for Brown Jr. and expanded his series points lead in the Pro Stock Division.
The victory also broke the track record for most wins by a driver in a single season.
After winning his heat race, the eighth time he’s won a qualifier in ’08, Brown Jr. started on the front row outside of Colfax’s Ray Trimble. Both got off to a clean start, but coming out of the first turn, Brown Jr. had the advantage and the lead all the way to the checkered flag.
Browns Valley brothers Cody and Mason Myers closed out their action at Placerville Saturday with 13th and 14th places, respectively, in the Wingless Sprints A feature.
Mason Myers finished second in his heat race, while Cody Myers was seventh in the qualifer. Mason holds third place in the drivers standings, while Cody is fourth, behind Anderson’s Keith Bloom.
Marysville Raceway Park
Colfax’s Colby Wiesz won his heat and the main event Saturday night in the Pacific Sprints division at Marysville Raceway Park.
Grass Valley’s Jeremy Burt took 14 place, which left him in fifth place in the season standings at MRP.
Pat Harvey Jr. of Grass Valley scored an 11th place finish in the 360 Sprints B feature Saturday night at Calistoga.
Harvey Jr. also took seventh place in his heat race.
Silver Dollar Speedway
Grass Valley’s Mark Hall ran to fifth place and Colby Wiesz of Colfax took 17th in the 410 Sprints action Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.
Hall, who has started just eight of the 14 races in Chico, currently holds 11th place in the season standings. Wiesz, who has run just four times at Silver Dollar this year, is 27th in the points race.
Cody Myers of Browns Valley took 12th place in Friday’s A feature of the Wingless Sprints.
He also took fourth place in his heat race, while his brother, Mason, finished eighth in the qualifier.
Matson racing continued to find recent success, despite some mechanical problems with the A/gas car.
On July 20, at Infineon Raceway, the team broke a camshaft in the car causing some internal damage during the first round of eliminations in A/gas competition.
Monti Fitzgerald, however, was able to earn the runner-up status with the team’s No. 2 car against Mike Dee.
On Aug. 2. Matson racing competed in Medford Oregon at Champion Raceway-West Coast Top Sportsman.
Continuing to have mechanical problems with the A/gas car, Matson had to support Fitzgerald whom drove the B/gas car all the way to the final round against Jeff Gillette.
Fizgerald, however, red lit allowing Gillette to win the race.
The Matson Racing team has had its best season yet with seven first place victories, along with five second-place showings.
