Miners win mat match by forfeit

Nevada Union’s wrestlers won their meet against Bella Vista by forfeit Thursday.

Bella Vista, which was expected to arrive by a deadline of 5:30 for weigh-ins, did not show until a few minutes before 6 p.m.

“By the rules, the referees were willing to call the match at 5:35, but we gave them an extra 20 minutes, and they still hadn’t arrived,” NU coach Steve Pilcher said.

The rest might do NU good. Today, starting at 11 a.m., the Miners will compete in the two-day Foothill tournament in Sacramento. The prestigious event will more than 50 teams and feature numerous state-ranked wrestlers.
