Miners tally top-10 finishes

Garrett Migliozzi and Nora Pizella led the Nevada Union varsity cross country squads with sixth-place finishes Wednesday at Willow Hills Reservoir.

In the first Sierra Foothill League meet of the season, Migliozzi led the Miners with a time of 17 minutes and 11 seconds. David French finished 11th for the Miners with a time of 17:48, and Kael Newton finished 41st with a time of 19:17.

Pizzella led the Lady Miners with a time of 20:47. Chloe Reindle came in 11th at 21:53, and Joy Castro-Wehr finished 19th with a time of 22:25.

Leading the junior varsity boys team was Josh Harris, finishing eighth at 13:13, Evan DeJardines was 14th with a time of 13:40, and Roy Asher took 19th at 13:50.

Mikaela Hawkins was first to cross the finish line for the Lady Miner JV squad with a ninth-place finish at 15:34, Bella Brownwood was 19th at 16:24, and Daphne Tillotson finished 35th with a time of 19:06.

Junior High

The Magnolia eighth-grade girls basketball team dropped a close game 27-26 Tuesday at Lyman Gilmore.

The Rattlers were led by Ashley Albee with 10 Points, Grace Sypnicki had eight and Kaity Nat tossed in four. The Rattlers are 1-1 on the season.
