Miners send 11 forward

Eleven members of the Nevada Union track and field team members extended their season thanks to clutch performances at at the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section II at the American River College in Sacramento Wednesday.

By virtue of a top-six finish in each of their individual or relay events, the 11 earned a ticket to the section final at ARC Friday.

The field finals will begin at 3 p.m. The track championships will start at 5 p.m.



In Wednesday’s triple jump final, Mike Davies took second in the with a distance of 45-7.

Sarah Prout and Lauren Zealear led the way for NU with three finals qualifications each.




Prout will compete in the both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and will team with Zealear, Jessica Lorson and Sara Heidelberger on the 4×100 relay team.

Zealear will also compete in the both 400 and 800.

Mae Valdes and Ivy Dawson will join Prout in the 100 hurdles.

Jessica Lorson will also compete in the high jump.

For the boys, Ryder Heidelberger, Andrew Meyers, Chris Sheridan and Steven Conrad qualified for two events each.

Heidelberger, who’ll join Conrad in the 110 high hurdles final, will team with Meyers, Sheridan and Thor Juell inn the 4×100 relay.

Meyers and Sheridan will also run the 100. Conrad and Brandon King will compete in the 300 hurdles.

Jake Clinton will fight it out in long jump preliminaries for a shot at Friday’s finals.

NU’s boys and girls 4×400 relay teams also qualified.

Bear River also competed Wednesday, but results were not available at press time.
