Miners hold on vs. Burbank

Nevada Union’s Tony Parilo scored 29 points and had three key blocked shots down the stretch to lead the Miners to a 71-66 Metro League victory over host Burbank Saturday.

With the loss, Burbank remains with only one league win.

“Usually when a team is that far down the in the standings, they tend to give up,” NU coach Jeff Dellis said. “But they kept pounding and pounding at us.”

Dellis said each time the Miners managed to post a double-digit lead, Burbank would battle back.

Burbank was as close as within two inside of two minutes, but key free throws by NU’s Doug Black, Chase Fleming and Jon Sheets kept them at bay.

Parilo blocked three shots by Chris Gooding with the game on the line.

“We put Tony on ChrisGooding near the end, because they had a chance to get within one,” Dellis said. “and he blocked the shots to keep us ahead.”
