Miners already top total of ’07 golf wins

Nevada Union’s varsity golf team won just one Sierra Foothill League match last season.

But through three SFL showdowns this fall, the Miners now own a 2-1 record, with the latest victory coming Thursday at Granite Bay by a 265-269 score.

“Last year we didn’t even have two wins all season,” said NU coach Hank Davidson. “So we’re improving. I’m real proud of these kids.”

One of those kids is freshman Chelsey Love, who apparently has had the sweet swing of late. Love earned medalist honors for the third straight meet Thursday, shooting a low round of 44.

She was followed by Christina Miller’s 50 and Haley Shadburne’s 53, while Victoria McKinzie and Sydney Zink each shot 59. Zink and Madeline Wagnecht, who shot 65, each had their personal best rounds.

Nevada Union (2-1) hosts Oakmont Wednesday at Alta Sierra Country Club.
