Miners 4-0 in Metro
Nevada Union’s varsity boys basketball stayed unscathed in Metro Conference basketball action Tuesday, defeating visiting Woodland 68-47.
The Miners took a 23-4 lead after one quarter, thanks largely to an 18-point outburst in the period from senior guard Jon Sheets. Sheets buried eight 3-pointers on the night finishing with a team-high 32 points. Sheets has also made his last 27 consecutive free throw attempts.
“Looking at our last four or five games, we’ve gotten off to starts like 10-1, 13-4, 12-2 and 23-4,” NU coach Jeff Dellis said. “So we’re putting teams in the hole early.”
Jarad Van Matre threw a double-double effort into the mix, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds – including six offensively – for the Miners. Gary Daley added eight points and some strong defensive play, limiting Woodland leading scorer MartIn Flores to 12 points.
