Local Sports: NU senior short of cut for NorCal championship

Spencer Biersdorff was doing well until he hit his first par-5.

Nevada Union’s lead golfer was in the hunt at Stevinson Ranch Golf Course near Turlock in the section Master’s tournament, looking to advance to NorCals en route to states.

It just wasn’t meant to be.

The junior had a birdie on his first hole but hit his first bad shot on the par-5 and couldn’t recover. He finished with an 88 on the par-72 course.

The overall leader ended the day 2-under par with Christian Brothers, Jesuit and Rocklin finishing as the top teams.

Nine Falcons honored with all-league selections

Forest Lake Christian’s girls soccer team took a round of awards Tuesday, with Jessica Raskin leading the way, claiming the Central Valley Christian League Most Valuable Player.

Raskin, along with Logan Burke, Jordan England and Aine Ormiston were named to the CVCL’s first league team in Monday’s league coaches meeting.

Alaura Woody, Elyse Vierra and Christa Weissman were named to the second team while Morghan Pomeroy and Katie Shore were named to the honorable mention team marking nine players for the Falcons honored.

Raskin led the league with 25 goals. She also won the league MVP last season.
