Local Roundup: Red Sox win tourney

The Nevada City Junior Red Sox won the District 11 Tournament of Champions Saturday night in Rocklin against the previously 20-1 Bear River Dodgers.

The Red Sox won in five innings 18-8, beating the Dodgers whom had won their first two tournament games by a combined score of 36-2.

Jake Hofheinz started a flurry of hits for the Red Sox with a double to the wall before stealing his way home.

The Red Sox scored 15 runs in one inning, led by hits from Kyle Turiello and Brandon O’Callaghan. The game was completed with Isaac Cuellar smashing a ball to center, and Brandon Wasely-Long hitting in Miles Ward to end the game early with a 10-run lead.

Strong pitching efforts by Cuellar and Greg Callison kept the Dodgers bats contained, and great defensive efforts by Turiello and Cameron Townsend helped the Red Sox finish the season with the championship.
