Local Roundup: Lady Bruins land victory in overtime

Outscoring host Placer 9-4 in overtime, Bear River pushed past the Lady Hillmen for a 53-48 victory Wednesday that kept the Lady Bruins standing in second place in Pioneer Valley League basketball.

Bear River trailed 38-29 after three quarters, but mounted a comeback that saw the Lady Bruins outscore Placer 17-6 in the fourth quarter to earn the extra session.

“That put us over the hump,” said Bear River assistant coach Merlin Elders. “It really was a great win for us.”

Riley Pearson led the Lady Bruins with 14 points and seven rebounds. Whitney Smith had 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Jenn Meylor totaled 13 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Kayla Reeves led the way for Placer (6-13 overall, 3-3 PVL), totaling 15 points, while Amy Clark and Malissa Manning each added 10 points.

Placer travels to Mesa Verde (1-21, 0-7) on Friday, while Bear River (17-5, 6-2) hosts Lincoln (8-14, 1-6) on Feb. 10.
