Local Roundup: FLC clinches No. 1 seed

Forest Lake Christian’s varsity girls volleyball team clinched the No. 1 seed for the playoffs Friday by beating Woodland Christian 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18) in the Central Valley Christian League tournament championship at Sacramento Waldorf.

The Falcons now have 10 days off before they host the first match of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs on Nov. 7.

Teresa Reed led Forest Lake Christian in the championship game with 13 kills and two blocks, Kim D’Antonio posted 10 kills, 26 assists, 19 service points and two blocks and Torrey Haddad totaled eight kills to accompany her team-high 37 assists.



Kelsey Anderson and Rebekah Koopmans also had eight kills each.

Shelby Lowe and Julie Moore put in solid games defensively, according to Falcons coach Travis Smith.




“This was a huge win,” Smith said. “It was the best match as a team we have played.”

Soccer

Forest Lake Christian 8, Woodland Christian 0

Andreas Zeischegg and Ben Sparling each scored two goals in the Falcons’ shutout win.

Mitch Seman, Eric Green, Ben Kopec and Matt Rose each scored once.

Forest Lake Christian (17-3-2 overall, 10-0-1 Central Valley Christian League) finishes the regular season at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Vacaville Christian.

The Falcons will have a week off following that match to prepare for playoffs, which begin Nov. 7.
