Local Roundup: Bear River rocks NC

Bear River rocked Nevada City for the second time in three tries Monday night, beating their fellow junior all-stars 11-1 at Condon Park.

Sam Houston pitched all five innings while giving up only one run, a home run to Conner Keith of Nevada City.

Bear River’s bats took over the game otherwise.



Sammy Aguilar batted 2-for-2 for Bear River, Trevor McGhee went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Josh Toft was 2-for-2.

Robert Bristol went 2-for-2 with three RBIs while Nathan Mansuetti batted 1-for-1 with one RBI and Caleb Van Patten had an RBI.




Troy Runte also batted 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Jake Sweene and Shane Soria had strong defenisve with two double plays and McGhee played a great game behind the plate, throwing two guys out.

Chris Nix played a great job at third and helped in a double play.

Bear River plays Rocklin tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Condon for the District 11

Conner Keith hit a home run for Nevada City for his team’s only score.

Bear River 11, Penn Valley 1

Bear River advanced to the Area 2 championship game on Thursday by beating the Penn Valley all-stars 11-1 Monday night.

Dayton Anderson pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and one run while striking out five to take the win.

“Defense was key again tonight,” team manager Randy Anderson said in an e-mail. “Our middle infield of Nick Mansuetti and Matt Lopez did an excellent job.”

Tyler Toft batted 3-for-3 for Bear River with two RBIs while Kyle Soria added a double and two RBIs. Robbie Hildebrand also had a double and two RBIs.

Bear River plays in the Area 2 championship Thursday.

Sunday

Nevada City 7, Bear River 6

Nevada City junior all-stars beat Bear River Sunday night, 7-6 after beating Grass Valley Saturday night, 10-6.

Pitchers Greg Callison, Eric Shinn and Conner Fuller helped keep the Bear River bats at bay.

Defensivly, Matt Wittler, Jake Hofheinz, Brandon O’Callaghan and Tyler Houlihan all did a great job with the gloves, said league manager Trish Gerving in an e-mail.

Mid Placer 16, Nevada City 9

The Nevada City Little League all-stars were knocked out Sunday night by the Mid Placer all-stars, losing 16-9.

Jordan Jiannino pitched two innings, Jack Gerving pitched another inning and Dylan McClure pitched the last three innings for Nevada City.

Shawn Jordan went 3-for-4 at the plate with three bunts. Jiannino went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Joey Souza added a single, Dylan McClure went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs while Jack Gerving went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Chris Brancato added an RBI. Tyler Van Norman went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the loss.
