Local golfers play in NCGA events
Steven MacIlraith of Lake Wildwood teamed up with Richard Paiko of Wildhorse to tie for fourth place in the Northern California Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball Championship at the Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach Sept. 16-17.
MacIlraith and Paiko scored a two-day total of 138, tying Richard Mickel of Peach Tree and Lou Alvarez of Sacramento, along with Clifford Davis of Green Valley and Robert Olds of Roddy Ranch.
Mike Butler of Olympic Club and Earl Stewart of Meadow Club combined for the winning score of 135.
Lake Wildwood’s Gerry Galvin and Glenn Williamson posted the 10th best score in the Sept. 13-14 NCGA Four-Ball Net Tournament at Poppy Hills GC.
Galvin and Williamson combined to shoot a two-day total of 134, after carding an opening round 65 and following with a 69 in the second round. Castlewood’s Robert Baker and Steve Grant matched the locals to finish in a tie for 21st place overall.
Modesto Golf Course’s Larrell Fortner and Rick Frazier needed overtime to take first place the 36th annual event. Walter Batiste and Everett Kistle finished in second place after the playoff. Each of the teams finished two rounds of play with a 20-under-par score of 124.
The Ridge Golf Course’s Tom Bailey and Jerry Rogers of Auburn finished in a three-way tie for third place, including Justin Graham and Rich Staples of Shelter Cove GL and Palo Alto GC’s team of David Brandi and Lawrence Bazinett.
Lake of the Pines’ Dale Hasick finished fourth in the Director’s Flight of the NCGA’s Net Amateur Championship at Poppy Hills GC on Monday and Tuesday.
Hasick shot a two-round total of 145, including a 70 on Day 2. Bill Seay of Sherwood Forest won the Director’s Flight with a 137.
Richard Thornton of Lincoln Hills was the overall champion with a 134.
Hector Jamili of Coyote Run (at Beale Air Force Base) shot a 155 to tie for 21st place in the President’s Flight.
Lake Wildwood’s Karen Price shot a 93 at a U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Qualifying event Sept. 13 at Mira Vista Golf and Country Club, finishing five strokes back of the final qualifying score.
Still ahead next week is the NCGA’s Senior Four-Ball Net Championship, to be held Sept. 27-28 at Poppy Ridge GC.
Lake Wildwood’s Chet Butler and Roy Coxen are among the duos scheduled to compete.
CABPRO tourney set for Friday
The California Association of Business, Property and Resource Owners is sponsoring a tournament at DarkHorse Golf Club Friday. Check-in and lunch begins at noon, followed by a 2 p.m. shotgun start.
