Lady Miners fall short to Eagles
The Nevada Union Lady Miners (13-11 overall, 6-4 league ) traveled to Del Oro (20-4, 9-0) looking for revenge of an earlier loss this season, and when the final horn sounded Del Oro was victorious again, 66 – 42.
“It was a mild improvement over last time,” NU coach John McDaniel said comparing tonight’s loss to the Jan. 20 loss of 70-41 to the Golden Eagles.
Jennie Caroll achieved a double double, scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Lindsey DeMatteis scored 13 points as well for NU in the loss.
The Lady Miners will play Woodcreek (17-7, 6-3) on Tuesday for its last home game of the regular season.
JV: Del Oro 43, NU 41
The Golden Eagles led at halftime with a score of 20-18, but the Miners worked its way in front of Del Oro in the third quarter, and led 32-31 heading into the fourth.
NU led most of the fourth until Del Oro took the lead with 1:15 remaining on the clock, after the Miners failed to take care of the ball resulting in two consecutive turnovers and the Golden Eagles converted on both opportunities.
Nicole Lierly led the scoring with 11 points, Taylor Mitchell had 10 points and five steals, while Tessa DeVere gave nine boards with three points in the loss.
Frosh: Nevada Union 40,
Del Oro 39
The game was tight from start to finish and the last three minutes saw the lead change hands four times, but in the end NU pulled out the win.
Sarina Orellana led the way for the Miners with 11 points and 10 boards, Kendall Clark had 8 points with 5 rebounds and Olivia Gulsvig’s 7 points 5 rebounds was enough to get by the Golden Eagles.
Mesa Verde 42, Bear River 39
The Bruins varsity team trailed the entire game, down 29 -17 half, but did cut the lead to two points with five minutes to go in the contest but just fell short in the end.
Sean Smith led the Bruins in scoring with 11 and Jordan Beskeen delivered 10 in the loss. The loss moves the Bruins to 2-8 in the Pioneer Valley League and 11-12 overall. They travel to Whitney on Tuesday.
JV: Bear River 61,
Mesa Verde 53
The Bear River JV Boys’ basketball team improved to 9-1 in Pioneer Valley League play, with its victory over visiting Mesa Verde 61-53.
Brandon Wooner led the Bruins with a double double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Justin Beskeen was efficient on the night hitting 6 of 7 shots from the floor, finishing with 13 points and five rebounds. Trevor McGhee and Josh Toft scored nine and eight points respectively, and Toft also grabbed 11 boards. Jimmy Bamburg added seven points along with CJ Olsen’s five to round out the scoring. The Bruins are 14-10 overall and will travel to Whitney Tuesday.
