Lady Falcons have long haul for second round

Forest Lake Christian’s girls basketball team will get the equivalent of an upgrade in competition when they travel to San Andreas today to play Mountain Valley League champions Mountain Oaks (23-3) in the second round of the Division V Sac-Joaquin section playoffs.

Their opponent, which raced to a 12-0 record in the MVL, has won 14 games straight including a forfeit to Tioga. The No. 4 seeded Eagles beat Big Valley Christian 31-29 to get into the second round. Mountain Oaks was led by Erin Bryant’s team-leading nine points. The team’s leading scorer is Allison Milward, who averages 8.8 points per game.

The last time the Eagles lost was a 40-34 defeat on Dec. 21, 2007 to Valley Christian – whom the Falcons manhandled on Tuesday 56-28 to open the section playoffs.

The No. 5 seeded Falcons (17-9) have won eight of their last 10 games and 12 of their last 15. Senior Katie Fletcher led FLC with 18 points on Tuesday to beat Valley Christain en route to the victory. Teammate Kayla Campora had 11 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and five steals.

Fletcher leads the team in scoring with 15.1 points per game.
