Junior high wrestlers hit the mats

Lyman Gilmore will be hosting a 66-team invitational today at Nevada Union High School.

The 15th Annual Lyman Gilmore Invitational, with middle school and club teams from California, Oregon, and Nevada, will begin at 9:30 a.m. today, and is scheduled to conclude at 7 p.m. The price of admission is $3 for adults, $1 for students.

The Gilmore wrestlers are looking to keep the momentum of last weekend’s success at a 27-team tournament in Reedley. Among the notable performers at that tournament were Drew Hoskin (first at 67 pounds), Josh Cena (fifth at 67), Jon Cronan (fifth at 81), Zach Callas (third at 123) and Mike McClain (fifth at 130).

In the larger weight classes, Ian Taylor took second at 137, Andrew Moon won the 151 weigh class, Andrew Jackson took third at 165, Anthony Zachariow (fifth at 185), and heavyweight Shane Freeman, who took third.
