Johnson forces late-game tie with Bruins

Johnson West of Sacramento scored a goal in injury time to force a 1-1 tie with host Bear River in a boys soccer match Tuesday.

“I was watching the referee and I was saying to myself that all he had to do was look down at his watch, blow his whistle and we were done,” Bruin head coach Dave Molina said. “It’s too bad because (the team) really wanted this one.”

Bear River (0-3-2 overall, 0-2-1 Pioneer Valley League) got on the board in the 20th minute of the first half off a Christoph Holtermann goal.

The Bruins had their first win of the season in sight, when Johnson West’s offense drove the length of the field for the score.

“The defense had really been coming together, so it’s hard to figure out (how they scored),” Molina added.

The Bruins will host Mesa Verde of Citrus Heights 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Becker scored the eventual match winner unassisted in the eighth minute of the first half.
