The seventh annual Jim Rogers Memorial Ride is set for 11 a.m. Feb. 6, rain or shine.

In 2010, Jim Rogers, a beloved local bicycle enthusiast was tragically killed by a distracted driver while riding his bike on Highway 174.

Six years later, the Jim Rogers Memorial Ride is still drawing hundreds of cyclists and opening eyes about the high risks of distracted driving.

The event is free for all and will begin at Tour of Nevada City Bike Shop, located at 457 Sacramento St. in Nevada City. The ride follows the “LeMond Loop,” which is about 16 miles long, but also has a shorter ride that goes for about 6 miles.

There will also be a Bicycle Benefit Lunch following the ride at 12:30 p.m. that will be held at Tour of Nevada City Bicycle Shop. If there is rain, the luncheon will be moved to Odd Fellows Lodge. The food will be provided by SPD. A $5 donation is suggested and all funds raised will benefit Youth Bicycling Groups in Nevada County.
