Under the lights and on a Friday night, former Nevada Union head football coach Dave Humphers will once again step foot onto the turf at Hooper Stadium.

He won’t be barking orders, calling plays or trying to stay one step ahead of the opposing coach though. Rather, he will be basking in the culmination of 22 years of coaching NU football, which will take shape in the form of a roast.

Former players, fans and anyone who wishes to honor Humphers are welcome to the Aug. 16 event, which will feature several speakers sharing their fondest memories of Humphers and his time as the head of Miner football.

The event kicks off at 6 p.m. with a barbecue for $5. Those who attend are encouraged to bring blankets and wear Nevada Union attire, and alumni are encouraged to wear jerseys.

Event organizer Tammy Noxon said there could be anywhere from 400-500 people in attendance.

Since taking over the Miners in 1991, Humphers led Nevada Union to a record of 195-57-2, including four Sac-Joaquin Section championships and 10 league titles. Humphers was named “California Coach of the Year” in 2005, following the program’s third of four section championship seasons.
