Bear River’s Matt Stuber broke onto the varsity scene with a bang at the Rio Linda scrimmages Saturday.

Bruins’ head coach Scott Savoie predicts fans of the Cardinal and Grey will see a lot of the 6-foot, 2-inch, 220 pound junior lineman this season.

“He was a force on the junior varsity last year and he’s stepped in. I felt like we’ve had some pretty good centers over the years and I can’t think of any of them who’ve had an easier transition from JV to varsity,” Savoie said.

Savoie said Stuber’s skills will also get lots of time on the defensive side of the ball.

“You hate to (risk losing) a good center, but I (have to) have him on the field,” Savoie added.
