HOT SHOTS – Myles Anderson

Myles Anderson played beyond his years for the Bear River American Legion Post No.130 baseball team this season.

Anderson, who was the youngest player on the squad, batted a team-best .464 and turned in a pair of big time performances in the Cardinal and Gray’s final two games.

He went 2-for-4 with a team-high two RBIs and struck out five in two innings work to help the Bear River beat Auburn 7-6 in extra innings Wednesday and advance to a District 31 Tournament pigtail bracket playoff game.

Bear River was bounced from the tournament with a 12-1 loss to visiting Roseville the next day, but Anderson stood tall.

He accounted for two of the hosts’ three hits – including a double – stole a base and scored Bear River’s only run.

“He played on (Bear River’s) junior varsity in the spring where everyone else on the team was either on Bear River’s, Colfax’s or Forest Lake Christian’s varsity,” Bear River head coach Mike Viola said. “(He started out slowly), but when he found his groove, he (caught fire). He had hits in eight of his last 12 at bats.”

Bear River ended the season winning six of its last eight and Viola said Anderson’s play at the plate played a key role.

“Anytime you’ve got someone who was batting .150 go to .464, it’s big. We had a lot of players (improve over the season), but no one came on like Myles,” he said.
