Grass Valley’s Brad Sweet stumbled out of the gate at the Petaluma Speedway, but came back strong to post his eighth top three Midget Lite finish of the season Saturday.

After a last place finish in his preliminary heat, Sweet battled through most of the main event’s 18-car field to take third overall.

Despite the finish, the Bear River High School junior dropped one spot to seventh in the Bay Cities Racing Association’s Midget Lite points race.

At 750 points, Sweet is 22 points behind sixth place Marshall Sexton. Defending division champ Greg Dennett leads the pack with 959 points.
