Amber Donovan will open her college volleyball career when Westmont College scrimmages visiting Cornerstone University of Grand Rapids, Mich., in Santa Barbara Wednesday.

As one of the Warrior’s two setters, the 2001 Central Valley Christian League’s most valuable player will battle it out with junior Shannon Harley for playing time.

Nine days later, the 2002 Forest Lake Christian High School grad will be in the van when the Warriors makes the trip south to Irvine to play in the two-day Concordia (University) Labor Day Festival.

Donovan signed with the Warriors after a standout career in a Lady Falcon uniform.

A four-year letter winner, Donovan helped FLC win four-straight Central Valley Christian League titles, as well as the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V crown in 1998.

“When I was a freshman, I didn’t realize the importance of it all. But as I got older, I started to realize how much of a big deal winning the section really is. That made me appreciate it even more,” she said.

The 5-foot, 8-inch setter’s performance on the court also paid off in a boatload of individual honors.

She was named to the All-CVCL first team from 1999 to 2001, and was voted and selected to play in June’s Optimist’s All-Star Volleyball Classic. Donovan also set FLC’s school record for assists in a season (524), as well as the career assist mark at 1,108.
