Havner likely sidelined 4-6 weeks

Injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash by former Nevada Union football star Spencer Havner are likely to keep him sidelined from the Green Bay Packers for four to six weeks, according to the Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Wednesday that he has spoken with Havner, but did not divulge much further information on the tight end.

“I’ve talked to Spencer the Sunday after the accident, really just checking on him physically at that time, and that’s really all I have to report,” McCarthy told reporters at the NFL owners meeting Wednesday. “We’re watching it, his situation. I think Spencer’s a quality person, I think he’s a good kid, I think he made a bad mistake. Without our doctors being able to lay their hands on him, I would just guess, but based on my conversation with him, (he’ll be out) four to six weeks.”

Phone calls to Havner and his agent have not been returned.

As of Wednesday, the Nevada County District Attorney’s office had not yet received an investigative report on the accident from the California Highway Patrol. Although Havner was arrested by the CHP for driving under the influence, the district attorney’s office will determined whether charges will be filed.

The Journal-Sentinel also reported General Manager Ted Thompson said Havner does have a future with the Packers.

“Sure,” Thompson said, “he’s part of our team.”
