Foursome takes Alta Sierrawomen’s invitational title

The Alta Sierra Women’s Golf Club hosted their 40th Annual Invitational golf tournament on Oct. 4-5.

Winners with the overall best net score were Alta Sierra members Diana Garbin and Clarice Bush, and their guests Gayle Liljeblad, of Lake Wildwood Golf Course, and Trudy Crough-Phillips, from Nevada County Country Club.

A total of 132 women representing 24 golf courses played in this year’s tournament, one of the biggest events of the year for the women’s golf club.

The tournament was chaired by Ellie Cardwell, Co-Captain of Alta Sierra Women’s Golf Club. The theme this year was “Puttin’ On the Ritz,” and the players were adorned in appropriately glitzy attire.

Winning scores were based on the combined better-ball scores of members and better-ball of guests. The two-day tournament was shortened to one day because of heavy rain on the second day.

First flight winners were: Kathy Krivacic, Jodi Gillespie, Marti Lathrop, and Theresa Grandi. Second flight winners were: Judy Train, Karen Hecox, Carol Mahoney, and Nonie Heibel. Third flight winners were Carolyn Howell, JoAnn Hinchcliffe, Gesha Kurrell, and Nancy Kehl. Fourth flight winners: Bebe Borges, Phyllis Roobian, Dorothy Van Zanten, and Mary Zink.
