Foundation games served up Thursday

Although all three area volleyball teams were in action Tuesday night, Thursday will be the best chance for fans of the Bruins, Falcons and Miners to get an early look at the 2008 teams.

All three squads will serve into action on their home courts at 7 p.m. Thursday, as part of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section’s annual Foundation Games.

Half the gate proceeds at all Foundation Games will be benefit the section’s scholarships program and the Women in Sports Conference. Cost of admission at each contest is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Nevada Union will usher in the Chrys Dudek era at Ali Gymnasium Thursday, although the first-year coach led the Miners into action Tuesday at Colfax in the season opener.

Dudek takes over the helm of the six-time defending Sac-Joaquin Section champions, after Bob Rogers and Larry Peterson retired as coaches earlier this year.

The Miners host former Metro Conference rival Yuba City in Grass Valley.

Bear River, led by third-year coach Bessie Gordon, welcomes former Pioneer Valley League foe Oakmont.

Laura Allred, who enters her second season as Forest Lake Christian’s coach, will lead the Falcons in a home matchup against Capital Christian.
